Import tariffs Trump no longer applies to smartphones and chips
President Trump has exempted electronics such as smartphones, chips, computers, and routers from import tariffs in order to encourage companies like Apple and Nvidia to invest and produce more in the US. However, China and the US have engaged in a trade war, resulting in increased tariffs on imports from each other's countries. As a way to avoid the high tariffs, Apple has reportedly shipped 1.5 million iPhones to India where the tariffs are lower and currently suspended.
