German government formally fallen, road clear for elections
German Chancellor Scholz has formally lost the confidence of the majority in the Bundestag, paving the way for early elections in just over two months due to the struggling economy. Scholz was defeated in a vote of no confidence and the Bundestag will now be dissolved as President Steinmeier prepares to call new elections.
